Planning Permission & Building Regulations

Often, conservatories do not need planning permission or building regulations approval, unlike other forms of extending your home. While a C and L Windows representative will be able to confirm at the survey stage whether either of these will apply in your particular case, you can use the following questionnaire as a guide:

If you answer yes to any of these questions then planning permission may be required:

Location
Is your home in a specially designated area (e.g. national park)?  Yes No
Is the conservatory on a wall facing a highway or footpath?  Yes No
Is your home a non-residential properly?  Yes No
Is your home a multiple dwelling?  Yes No
Is the conservatory less than 2m from any boundary?  Yes No
Size
Is the conservatory over 50% of the area of your garden?  Yes No
Is the conservatory over 4m high?  Yes No
Is the conservatory higher than your home?  Yes No
 
Finally if you answer yes to more than any one of these questions then planning permission may be required:
For Terraced Houses or houses in National Parks etc
Is the conservatory more than 50m3 and more than 10% of the volume of your home?  Yes No
Is the conservatory more than 115m3?  Yes No
For All Other Houses
Is the conservatory more than 70m3 and more than 15% of the volume of your home?  Yes No
Is the conservatory more than 115m3?  Yes No
